We do not use any of these chemicals listed below. We believe that they will affect the condition of your hair and body, stunting hair growth and slowing down skin cell rejuvenation. Here’s a list of some bad ingredients below.
Ethanolamines (MEA, DEA, TEA)- “Amines” meaning ammonia compound. This is used in foaming products and used to adjust pH level in cosmetics. Can cause allergic reaction and dryness in hair and skin. A petroleum-derived emulsifier; possibly carcinogenic.
Isopropyl Alcohol- Very powerful drying effect on hair.
Parabens- Come in the form of butylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutylparaben, methylparaben, or propylparaben. These may mock your body’s hormones. These chemical may interlope with the endocrine system like your thyroid or ovaries. These are absorbed through the skin and hair.
Phthalates- Use as gelling agents and fragrances in shampoos, hairspray, lotion, gel and nail polish. There are Phthalate Free fragrances which we use. Just like Parabens, Phthalates are known as endocrine disruptors. They may also be increasers in breast cancer, liver cancer and pregnancy inducers. Products that used recycling codes 3 and 7 were much more likely to contain Phthalates. We use recycling code 1.
Petroleum/Petrolatum- Petrolatum is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are found in oil, coal and tar deposits as byproducts of fuel burning. A study that was conducted at Columbia University indicated that breast tissue of women with breast cancer were 2.6 times more likely to have increased amounts of PAHs attached to their DNA than the breast tissue of women without breast cancer.
Sulfates (Lauryl, Laureth)- Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are surfactant ingredients are responsible for making suds. Can strip hair of its natural oils causing dryness. Possible carcinogens.
